608 HARTON GRAVES
Location - off Hwy 903 and Eaton Ferry Rd near Eaton Ferr Bridge.
Directions: From Warrenton courthouse on Hwy 158 E Bus, travel 9.9 miles to Vaughan and turn left onto SR 1345 (Eaton Ferry Rd). Travel 0.1 mile and bear left on SR 1344 (Eaton Ferry Rd). Travel 0.5 mile and turn right onto SR 1344 (Eaton Ferry Rd). Travel 6.3 miles and cross Eaton Ferry Bridge onto Hwy 903. The graves are located on the left in the first woods about 100 yards from the road. Two stones, with the hand-carved initials DH and GH, and other unmarked graves were noted in the 1988 survey. No stones or unmarked graves were found in 2000, probably due to commercial development. Race-White.
Note: The initials D H and G H are thought to be Dollie Harton and Gideon Harton. Thomas Barton, paternal grandfather, and Thomas Bell, maternal great grandfather, of Gideon Harton were granted land east and west of Hubquarter Creek in the 1770s. Gideon Harton birthdate established by his apprenticeship to learn the art of using tools and to read and write.
