      • [Cremation]. James C. Cameron, 64, a resident of Green Leaf Care Center, a subsidiary of Universal Health Care in Lillington, passed away at that facility. Survivors: children - James Ray (Tabitha) of Broadway, Alicia White of Spring Lake, Shona McKoy and Brandon McKoy both of Sanford; siblings - Mary Alice Faye Cameron, Kathleen Cameron, Neil Cameron (Jozette), Edna Cameron, and Bessie Jane Elliott (John) all of Harnett County, NC; nine aunts; two uncles; eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren. Arrangements were handled by Dafford Funeral Home of Angier. A Memorial Service was held at Dafford Funeral Home in Angier.
  2. Crystal, Phyllis McNeill   (b. 12 Oct 1950 - d. 14 Dec 2019)
      • [Cremation]. Phyllis Crystal, age 69 of Southern Pines, died at her home. She was born in Lee County, daughter of the late Gattis Loften McNeill and Eunice Patterson McNeill. She graduated from Boone Trail High School in 1968 and Sandhills Community College and was a member of the Mount Pisgah Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Janet Laird and brothers Marshall McNeill, Eugene McNeill and Mickey McNeill. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Jeff, and her son Matt, his wife Jennifer, and two grandchildren, Reagan and Joseph, all of Fort Myers, Florida. Additionally, she is survived by her sisters Joyce Jones (Larry) and Agnes Cameron (Ronald) of Broadway. Arrangements were conducted by the Smith Funeral Home of Broadway. Funeral services were held at Mount Pisgah Presbyterian Church in Broadway, NC.
  3. Dennis, Jimmy Lee   (b. 26 Feb 1952 - d. 8 Feb 2018)
      • [Cremation]. Husbnd of Betty Dennis. Jimmy Lee Dennis, 65, of Lillington passed away Arat Emerald Health and Rehabilitation Center in Lillington after a long struggle with kidney disease and cancer. He was born in Harnett County, the son of the late Wright and Fannie O'Quinn Dennis. Jimmy was the baby of thirteen children. He worked as an electrician for most of his life until becoming disabled. Jimmy loved cutting grass, gardening, the outdoors and spending time with family and friends. He was preceded in death by brothers, Baby George Dennis, Wayne Dennis, Wright Dennis, Jr., George William Dennis; sisters, Margaret White, Ellon Upchurch, Eyvone Womack, Lula Mae Dennis; son-in-law, Wesley Gunter. Jimmy was a loving husband, father and brother. Jimmy is survived by his wife, Betty Dennis of the home; 2 daughters, Doris Gunter of Broadway, Amanda Griffis and husband Derrick of Sanford; 2 sisters, Anita Dezso of Lillington, Jewel Damon of Sanford; 2 brothers, Clyde Dennis and wife Henrietta of Lillington, Ralph Dennis and wife Hilda of Lillington; many nieces and nephews. Arrangements were handled by O'Quinn Peebles Phillips Funeral Home of Lillington, NC. A funeral service was conducted at O'Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Chapel in Lillington, NC.
  4. DeVoy, Frank Joseph   (b. 18 Jan 1930 - d. 19 Oct 2014)

  5. Dickens, Vicki Thomas   (b. 7 Sep 1950 - d. 10 Jan 2019)
      • [Cremation]. Wife of David Dickens. Vicki Thomas Dickens, 68 of Sanford passed away at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC. Vicki was born in Sanford, a daughter of the late Ruth McFarland McNeill and George W. Thomas and step father James McNeill She also was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Neill Thomas. She attended Boone Trail High School in Mamers, NC and was a member of Mount Pisgah Presbyterian Church in Broadway, NC. Mrs. Dickens is survived by her husband, David Dickens; son, Brannon Perry Dickens; grandchildren, Cade, Rob and Taylor Dickens; sisters, Bonnie Thomas and husband Billy of Broadway, Bobbi Garrett and husband Bob of Broadway; brother, David McFarland of Broadway; sister in law Brenda Hogan of Greensboro; many nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements were handled by Rogers Pickard Funeral Home in Sanford, NC. Services were conducted on Thursday January 17, 2019 at Mount Pisgah Presbyterian Church in Broadway, NC. Cremation, no burial.
  6. Doberstein, Robert Edward   (b. 7 Sep 1932 - d. 8 Feb 2018)
      • [Cremation]. Husband of Carolyn Doberstein. Master Sergeant (Ret) Robert Edward Doberstein, age 85, of Cameron, NC, passed away at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Glendale, Wisconsin to the late Fred Doberstein and Gladys Ellingson Doberstein. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna McKenzie; a granddaughter, Mandy Chavis; a brother, Frederick Doberstein and by a sister, Dorothy Doberstein Clarkson. Bob proudly serviced his country for 22 years in the US Army - Special Forces Groups. Some of his duty stations included Vietnam, Lebanon, Germany, Okinawa and Fort Bragg. After his retirement from the Army, he operated Doberstein Greenhouses and he also managed Kendale Bowling Lanes for over 30 years. He was devoted to his community and served in the following areas: President Johnsonville PTO; Advisory Board for Johnsonville and Benhaven Schools; Advisory Board for Central Carolina Community College Barber School; President of North Carolina Greenhouse Growers Association; President of North Carolina Farm Marketing Association; 4-H Leader; Johnsonville Ruritan Club President; started the Johnsonville Meals on Wheels program; Trinity Lutheran Church President of Church Council; Harnett County Forward Together Committee; Sustainable Sandhills Organization; he served on both the Planning and Tax Evaluation Boards for Harnett County; he was a Spout Springs Fire Fighter; President Board of Directors of Spout Springs Fire Department; Johnsonville Precinct Chairman of the Democratic Party; Founder of the Buddy Backpack program for Harnett County in 2008; Harnett County Community Foundation; National Association for Retired Federal Employees; Member of Official Umpires Association and umpired ball games at Moore County prisons. Bob received the Cape Fear District Ruritan of the Year award in 2009 and also was recipient of the Governors' Award in 2010. Spout Springs dedicated their emergency services building in Bob's honor in 2013. Bob is survived by his wife, Carolyn; his sons, William Richard Taylor and his wife, Cindy of Hickory, Frank Kevin Taylor and his partner, Gail of Cameron, Bobby Doberstein and wife, Lisa of Cameron; daughters, Mary Lynn Smith and partner, Barry of Lillington, Anita Jewel and husband, Michael of Trezevant, TN; Karen Taylor and partner, George of Vass, Denise Ramsey and husband, Patrick of Cameron; son-in-law, Don McKenzie of Cameron; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Melvin Doberstein and wife, Marlene and by two sisters, Phyllis Born and husband, Eugene and Shirley Anderson and husband, Marlin. Arrangements were handled by Bridges Cameron Funeral Home of Sanford, NC. A memorial service was held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sanford, NC.
  7. Dugger, Sharion Mangum   (b. 19 Feb 1951 - d. 1 Dec 2011)
      • [Cremation]. Wife of Arley J. Dugger. Sharion Mangum Dugger, 60, an English teacher at Boone Trail High School in Mamers, NC for 4 years and then at Western Harnett High School for 35 years, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. A native of Harnett County she was the daughter of Gertha Adams Mangum and the late John Dee Mangum. Surviving are her husband of twenty six years, Arley J. Dugger, daughter, Lindsey D. Gardner and her husband, Matthew of Four Oaks, mother, Gertha Adams Mangum of Angier, sisters, Ruth M. Hockaday of Raleigh, Donna M. Cobb of Angier, and brother Johnny Mangum of Angier. Arrangements were handled by Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Angier, NC. A memorial service was held at the Angier Baptist Church in Angier, NC.
  8. Freeman, Edward Young   (b. 18 Nov 1941 - d. 20 Dec 2012)
      • [Cremation - urn in home of his widow at Broadway] - Husband of Minnie Pearl "Mess" Freeman. Son of Charles Edward Freeman and Lillian A. Sullivan Freeman. Mr. Edward Young Freeman, 71, of Broadway, N.C, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, at E. Carlton Powell Hospice Center in Lillington, North Carolina. Mr. Freeman was born in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Lillian A. Sullivan Freeman and Charles Edward Freeman. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two sons, Eddie Freeman Jr. and Brian Freeman. He served his country in the U. S. Army. Ed served two tours in the Vietnam War as a Lieutenant and Captain where he served as a helicopter pilot. He was a hard worker who retired from Food Lion as a store manager. Ed was a loving father, husband, brother, and uncle. He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Mess Freeman. He is also survived by his sister, Anne Smeal and husband Glenn Sr. of Holly Springs, NC. He was loved by two nieces and two nephews and seven great-nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements were handled by Bridges Cameron Funeral Home of Sanford, NC. A private Memorial Service was held for the family. There was no visitation.
  9. Harrington, Sion Wayne   (b. 20 Nov 1949 - d. 22 Apr 2018)
      • [Donated to Science]. Husband of Sherry H. Harrington. Sion Wayne Harrington, age 68 of Broadway, died at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford. He was born in Lee County, son of the late Sion Gaster Harrington and Ada Ruth Upchurch Harrington. He was preceded in death by his parents. Wayne retired from the North Carolina Department of Corrections where he worked in the Medical Unit. He was a member for many years of the Boone Trail EMS, was a recipient of the Order of the Long Leaf Pine and loved to farm and fish. He was a member of Mount Pisgah Presbyterian Church in Broadway, NC. Wayne's body was donated to science. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date. Surviving is his wife, Sherry H. Harrington of the home and daughters Christina Harrington-Craig and Jennifer Harrington both of Broadway. Arrangements were handled by the Smith Funeral Home of Broadway, NC.

  11. Horton, Joseph L.   (b. 9 Feb 1946 - d. 5 Mar 2019)
      • [Cremation]. Husband of Sue Adcock Horton. Mr. Joseph L. Horton, 73, of Lillington, passed away on March 5, 2019. Joe was born in Wake County to the late Talmadge and Elsie Horton but was raised in Lillington. He had a lifelong love of family and his local community. He was a graduate of Lillington High School, Class of 1964. Joe attended Central Carolina Technical Institute in Sanford, NC where he was first president of the Student Government Association in 1966. He received his Associate's Degree in Engineering and subsequently worked in telecommunications for the next 35 years. His career saw him work for telephone companies and telecommunication businesses, for which he traveled extensively; including a stint in Tully, Greenland. He received numerous sales awards and was nationally recognized for his depth of understanding of industry equipment. Following his successful career he was most happy to return to Harnett County for his retirement years. Joe had several loves throughout his life: fishing, gardening, disc jockeying as the "Big Bopper", and hosting events with his "SueBaby" to include his family, high school class, oyster roasts and any excuse to get loved ones together. Always involved in his local churches, Joe had served as a Deacon, Treasurer, Secretary, Sunday School teacher and when called upon, he enjoyed sharing a sermon. Joe loved to fly. He had his private pilot's license and directed a program which built a single engine airplane with local Boy Scouts. Joe is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sue Adcock Horton; two daughters, four grandchildren, Joette Seniff and husband Todd Seniff and their sons, Jackson and Blanchard Seniff all of Guilford, CT; Karla Bridges and her daughters Katie Sue and Emma Bridges; and a brother, Tommy Horton of Lillington. Arrangements were handled by O'Quinn Peebles Phillips Funeral Home of Lillington. Services were held March 8 at the funeral home chapel.
  12. Schark, Janice Patricia   (b. 26 Feb 1964 - d. 12 Nov 2017)
      • [Cremation]. Janice Patricia Schark, age 53 of Broadway, died at her home. She was born in Jersey City, New Jersey. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jennafer Lynn Schark. Surviving is her husband, Robert Munger III. of the home; Daughters, Theresa Lee Biddlecome of Houston, Texas, Elizabeth Frances Biddlecome of Katy, Texas, Samantha Lorraine Biddlecome of Katy, Texas and Jessyka Faith Schark of Broadway, NC; Step-sons, Robert Thomas Munger IV of Sanford, NC and David Allen Munger of Broadway, NC; Sisters, June Elizabeth Truncellito of Cameron, NC, Judith Ann Taylor of Hollywood, Florida, and Sandrann Bridget Harris of Plantation, Florida; Brothers, John James Noeth Jr. of New Jersey and James Joseph Noeth of Sanford, NC. Nine grandchildren, and twelve nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held at the Smith Funeral Home in Broadway. Arrangements were handled by the Smith Funeral Home of Broadway.
  13. Schark, Jennafer Lynn   (b. 8 Feb 2002 - d. 16 Jan 2016)
      • [Cremation]. Daughter of William Vernaza and Janice Patricia Schark. Jennafer Lynn Schark, age 13, of Broadway, died as a result of injuries sustained in a hit and run accident. She was born in Lee County and was a student at Western Harnett Middle School. Surviving is her mother, Janice Patricia Schark and her husband, Robert Munger II of the home; Father William Vernaza of Chapel Hill, NC; Sisters, Teresa Lee Biddlecome, Elizabeth Frances Biddlecome and Samantha Lorraine Biddlecome all of Texas and Jessyka Faith Schark of the home; Brothers Robert Thomas Munger IV and David Allen Munger both of Sanford, NC. Arrangements were handled by the Smith Funeral Home of Broadway. A memorial service was held at Holly Springs Baptist Church in Broadway, NC.
  14. Upchurch, Burton Kimmes   (b. Abt 1943 - d. 5 Oct 2014)
